It's 2017, and to my understanding, the question of "who can say it?" has been answered. Yes, I'm referring to the N-word. If you aren't black, it's off limits. However, as usual, there's a white person who begs to differ.

A white teacher at a New Orleans high school, only identified as Coach Ryan, is under fire after a video of him telling his students it was OK for him to say the word “n****r" was posted to Twitter. The incident happened last Thursday and went viral. He has since been suspended after the video surfaced. However, his actions still have a lot of people literally saying WTF?

“That’s racist as sh*t,” the black student says in the video. “Why can you not understand that it’s racist for a white man to say ‘n****r’ to a black man? It’s f**king racist.”

The teacher then rebuttals that “n****r” is “a commoditized word” that no longer has its original meaning after being used so many times.

“It’s used by black people,” the student says.

“It’s used by everyone,” the teacher countered, causing the student to shout back, “No! No! You use it! Don’t say everyone.”

The fact that this is an educator having a debate with a student during school hours about the right to use a racial slur is beyond me.

Dr. Henderson Lewis Jr., the Orleans Parish School Board superintendent, issued a statement to local station WVUE, saying he condemned “the use of language of a derogatory or inflammatory nature.”

While that's all well and good, I want to know what's going to happen next because conversations like this should not be happening, especially in the classroom. God Bless Donald Trump's America, I suppose.
