Diversity is a hot topic in the entertainment industry right now, and to be honest, Marvel is killing it right now as far a diverse representation goes. Miss Marvel is a Pakistani Muslim teen, Spider-Man is a black and latino teen and Iron Man (IronHeart) is a young black woman.

Since 2011, America Chavez, a latina, lesbian teen, has been Miss America — a Marvel superhero and part of the Young Avengers and the Ultimates. Now, Chavez is getting her own solo comic series.

The news was announced at New York Comic-Con. The series will be simply titled, America. It will be illustrated by former “Young Avengers” artist Jamie McKelvie.

Miss America comes from a parallel, utopian dimension. Her own parents (she had two mothers) sacrificed themselves to protect their universe from destruction. After concluding that her universe didn’t need to be saved, she ended up in the Marvel universe. Her superpowers, which were given to her by her parents, include the ability to fly, bulletproof skin, super strength and the ability to travel between dimensions. Her personality is outspoken and ultra-confident.

Few other details about the series itself at this time, but we are sure that it will be LIT!
