A federal court ruled against gossip blogger LaTasha Kebe, known as Tasha K, and her appeal regarding the guilty verdict in a defamation lawsuit she lost against rap megastar Cardi B.
In 2019, the “Money” artist sued the YouTube blogger for posting multiple videos where she made false accusations that could negatively impact the mother of two’s reputation. Kebe lost the case and filed an appeal to overturn the ruling after the jury unanimously voted she was liable for defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Last summer, the UnWineWithTashaK host filed an appeal claiming the judge overseeing the case withheld evidence from her, which made for a “very lopsided presentation of evidence to the jury.” As Blavity covered, a judge ordered Kebe to pay the “WAP” artist $4 million (more than $2.5 million in damages and another $1.3 million in legal fees) in October. According to Billboard, the judge also required her to take down multiple videos where she made false accusations against the 30-year-old.
Billboard reported that Kebe lost her appeal on Tuesday after the court ruled she didn’t correctly follow the process to provide the judge sufficient evidence to argue her innocence.
“Defendant Latasha Kebe asks for a new trial, saying that there was insufficient evidence for the jury verdict against her. But as she all but admits, she didn’t make either of the required post-verdict motions in the district court,” the appeals court wrote.
“She never tells us where in the 5500-page record the district court’s alleged errors can be found,” the court added. “Because Kebe’s brief falls well short of what we require, she has abandoned this argument.”
In a post to fans, Kebe apologized to Cardi B.
“Damn Winos!” she said, as reported by XXL. “We lost the appeal against Cardi B sad day. But I’m gonna be alright. I appreciate all your love [and] support. Throughout this fight. Today we throw in the white flag. What happened will never happen again. To Cardi [and] her team, I apologize sincere[ly]. We live and learn.”
She captioned the post, “Talk about a check my mouth can’t cash.”
