Lawyers for Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued in a court document that the politician bares similarity to civil rights activist Rosa Parks because Cruz is unable to repay himself more than $250,000 in loans from campaign assets.

According to CBS News, Cruz loaned his 2018 re-election campaign for Senate $10,000. Now, he is seeking to be reimbursed for that investment. Problem is, Federal Election Commission (FEC) rules state he cannot be repaid for that contribution. Cruz's legal team was so offended by that decision they filed a lawsuit against the FEC. In those documents, they likened the Donald Trump apologist to the revered civil rights pioneer.

"The FEC also asserts that Senator Cruz and the Cruz Committee inflicted their injuries on themselves because they could have arranged to repay the Senator's loans using pre-election funds. Yes, and Rosa Parks could have sat in the back of the bus," Cruz's attorneys wrote.

HuffPost reports that the Canadian-born lawmaker gave his campaign $260,000 total and the FEC's Loan Repayment Plan only authorizes candidates to receive $250,000 in return. His legal team argues that this ruling is an infringement on their client's ability to "exercise their constitutional right to express their political views."

As one can imagine, Twitter took ire with the inexplicable correlation.

Ted Cruz's team has remained mum on the topic since news broke, but this seems like a situation they should just quit while they're behind.
