So says Philly.com in an interview piece with Terence Blanchard, who’s in Philly this week to give a master class to students at the Girard Academic Music Program and the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts.
The story centers on a young black teen from Baltimore, who is sent to Harlem by his mother to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged grandparents. The boy then learns the real meaning of faith and family when his grandfather delivers a Christmas Eve sermon and “a stylized, dream-sequence retelling of the classic Nativity story.“
Tyrese Gibson, Luke James, singer Jacob Latimore and rapper Nas round out the cast.
Lemmons is directing from her own screenplay.
Blanchard last scored George Lucas’ Red Tails.
