Thandie Newton is taking her thespian skills to the stage to star in the first West End (London’s equivalent of Broadway) revival of Death And The Maiden.

My introduction to the play came in the form of the Roman Polanski film which starred Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley. A superb drama/thriller I thought, thanks to strong performances from the cast, Polanski’s direction, lush cinematography, and a devastating near-4 minute closing monologue/confession, brought to life by Ben Kingsley, complimented by the haunting Schubert soundtrack.

Thandie Newton will play the role Sigourney Weaver played in the film.

Production previews begin October 13th, with an official opening on October 24.

Might a run on Broadway be forthcoming? Possible. Who knows. If it does well in the UK, it might travel, as others have done recently. Also, it hasn’t been performed on Broadway since 1992, so a revival might be in someone’s sights.

And then what? A film remake? 🙂

Anyway, good luck to Thandie. It’s a challenging role to play.

Here’s the 4-minute closing confession I referenced earlier.
