Update (September 26, 2018):

Tapes of James Harris Jackson's confession played in court have revealed he wasn't only preoccupied with killing interracial couples. The New York post reports he wanted to see all black people "exterminated."

“I think we should just preserve the best people and get rid of all the dead weight,” Jackson said on tape. “In my opinion blacks are inferior people.”

After taping his confession, officers said Jackson instructed them not to place in him in a cell with a black man. He reportedly told the detective on the case, “If I’m in with a black man, I’ll definitely kill him.”

On the fateful day of March 20, 2017, 66-year-old Timothy Caughman was fatally stabbed in Times Square with an 18-inch sword.

Just 24 hours later, James Harris Jackson walked into a New York Police Department station and turned himself in, telling officers, "I'm the person you're looking for," the Baltimore Sun reports.

In a highly disturbing confession tape, the 31-year-old admitted called the murder of Caughman "practice," and that he'd chosen to kill the homeless black man because "nobody cares about him."

The homeless man was the to be the first victim of a killing spree for Jackson had been planning for years, targeting “black men with white women, obviously,” he said, according to NY Daily News.

Jackson told police he hates interracial dating, and hoped killing mixed race couples would discourage the practice. “I mean, that’s the crux of the main problem, for me.”

Tapes of the killer's confession were released on Thursday in connection with a pretrial hearing. Jackson faces three charges: first-degree murder as an act of terrorism, second-degree murder as an act of terrorism and second-degree murder as a hate crime. Should he be convicted on the first count, Jackson will face life in prison.

As reported by the New York Times, the Baltimore native felt no remorse about his horrific deed. "No," Jackson said in a police interview when asked if he was sorry. "He's a homeless black guy."

As the Washington Post notes, Caughman made a living collecting bottles, and had become known for spotting celebrities such as Wyclef Jean and Oprah and taking pictures with them. He would also spread love and joy via social media by wishing his favorite celebs a good day.
