The video of Mary Halsey, who Elliott nicknamed her "funky white sister," performing "Work It" at a cookout went hella viral and everyone saw it, including Missy herself, according to Billboard.
Ellen DeGeneres, as you know, has love for viral stars, and often invites them to her show. Halsey was no exception, and took the host up on her invite, Entertainment Weekly reports.

As the internet sensation performed her rendition of the Missy hit, she had no idea she was in for the best surprise ever: Ellen had arranged for Elliott herself to make a surprise appearance, according to Cosmopolitan.
