Black Panther fans got a cool surprise from actor Chadwick Boseman on the Feb. 27 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

With the historic success of the latest Marvel film, Black Panther has broken new grounds for representation in Hollywood by creating a film that challenges preconceived notions about films with predominantly black casts.

Fans showed their love for the film on The Tonight Show by filming video messages that they thought were going to be shown to Chadwick Boseman who portrays T'Challa/ Black Panther. But what they didn't know was that he was standing behind the curtain listening to every bit of their praise.

Some credited the actor for his grace, and others praised him and the film for its positive representations of black people. One male fan said that he saw the film four times and that he was happy Boseman kept the suit on for most of the movie.

"I do have a life, but I saw it four times," the man starts. "I saw it once with my girlfriend— also I want to thank you for having your suit on for most of the movie because when your chest was out she was getting a little excited, and I was getting a little insecure. So thank you for that."

Another fan, an aspiring filmmaker, said that the film inspires black creatives to do their best work.

"I was so inspired as someone who wants to make movies one day," she said. I want to inspire people [because] art can really change the world."

Boseman even received the love of a fellow Howard University grad that marveled at his achievement on the record-breaking film. While chanting "HU," the pair created a bond that goes beyond fandom.
