Blackwell and his co-anchor Alisyn Camerota cackled as they watched the clip of people frantically running on the beach at San Diego’s La Jolla Cove as two sea lions went into attack mode, waddling aggressively towards them.

As the comedic scenario continued to play out, Blackwell started laughing uncontrollably, ET Canada reports.

“Look at how fast these sea lions move. I didn’t think that they could waddle quite that fast,” Camerota said in the clip.

“But they are chasing all the beachgoers away. These are sea lions. They’re charging. The woman who took the video says someone was trying to take a photo of them when they suddenly woke up,” Camerota added.

Blackwell then comedically imagined what the sea lions could have been thinking.

“I don’t know why, I just imagine their little sea lion voices cursing these people out and then chasing them around the beach,” Blackwell said in the clip shared on Twitter.

“You’d think the ocean would be big enough for all of us, but no,” Camerota laughed, as Blackwell added, “Oh, man. That’s what I needed.”

According to sea lion experts, the animals were probably sparring with one another over a female and were likely not after the people, HuffPost reports. 

“This behavior is not uncommon at all. The reason why the video has gotten like 10 millions views is because everybody is running like Godzilla is chasing them,” SeaWorld San Diego sea lion expert Eric Otjen said to The Guardian.

“It may look funny that everybody is running, but it’s not a bad choice. You don’t want to be caught in the crossfire,” Otjen said.
