Eighteen-year-old Evoni Williams, who works as a waitress at Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, was photographed cutting food for a 78-year-old diner. The photo went viral, and her act of kindness earned her a college scholarship.
According to a story by The Independent, Evoni had been saving money for college. During one of her shifts, an elderly man wearing an oxygen mask mentioned that he had difficulty using his hands. Evoni cut the man's food so he could eat, and Laura Wolf snapped a photo for Facebook.
In her post, Wolf said, "I'm thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this world seems so negative. If we could all be like this waitress & take time to offer a helping hand…"
Thousands of people expressed their desire to thank and reward Evoni for her kindness, and KHOU reported Texas Southern University has awarded Williams with a $16,000 scholarship to help her fulfill her dreams of studying business management. The mayor of La Marque also declared March 8, 2018, Evoni "Nini" Williams Day, in her honor.
"I got my own day," Williams, moved to tears told reporters. "It's something I would do any other day."
