ESPN Films critically-acclaimed (Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning) 30 for 30 film series returns for a second season starting on on Tuesday, October 2, at 8pm on ESPN/ESPNHD.

One of the films scheduled to screen this upcoming season is Daniel Gordon's feature doc that investigates the 1988 Olympic 100m sprint race that resulted in Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson's Gold medal stripped; he was disqualified for doping, losing the Olympic title and both records he'd set.

Titled 9.79*, the film is already scheduled to air on ESPN on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 8 pm, however, audiences attending next month's Toronto International Film Festival will have a first look at the film, when it screens there, in the TIFF Docs section of films, in September.

The 100-meter men’s final at the 1988 Seoul Games was the fastest and perhaps most thrilling sprint in Olympic history. But within 48 hours, gold medalist Ben Johnson had tested positive for anabolic steroids, and scandal reigned. This one race still haunts the eight men who took part. But what brought them to the starting line? And what happened to them since?

American Carl Lewis, who won the Silver medal in that race, ended up with the Gold, after Johnson was stripped of his.
