If you’re from the South, particularly the Carolinas and nearby states, you know about Cook Out. Not only do you know Cook Out, you love it. You live by it. When you go to the West Coast and try In-N-Out for the first time, it just doesn’t compare to the Southern delicacy that is a chargrilled burger. This restaurant, which also includes bible verses on its cups and paper bags, is also uber popular with black millennials. My particular favorite is their BBQ sandwich with Cajun fries, a chicken quesadilla and a huge tea.
But some people aren’t too happy with the fast-food chain right now. In fact, they are threatening to boycott them!
Wait…boycott Cook Out!?
Two Donald Trump supporters told WTVR that they faced ‘discrimination’ and were denied service from a Cook Out in Colonel Heights, Virginia. Shannon Riggs says that when she and her cousins went to the window wearing their Trump shirts and ‘Make America Great Again’ hats, someone inside said, “Hell no! I’m not serving them!”
Riggs said while “laughing and giggling” took place behind the window, their orders were later taken. Riggs and her family didn’t stand for that, canceling their orders and asking for the chain’s corporate number. This has led to Trump supporters across the nation calling for a ban on Cook Out on social media.
“Once you witness [discrimination] first hand, it’s a totally different experience. I was in a state of shock,” said Riggs.
Cook-Out released a statement, saying, “Cook Out is, and always has been, a politically neutral company. We welcome all customers regardless of political affiliation. Regarding the refusal of service at our Colonial Heights location, the situation has been resolved and was resolved that night per Cook Out policy.”
