An Uber driver in Gwinett County, Georgia was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 14 after a 16-year-old girl accused the man of rape.

The driver identified as College Park resident Abdoulie Jagne, 58, allegedly raped the passenger near a major roadway in the unincorporated part of Norcross according to Gwinnett Police Spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera.

“What’s reported here is horrifying beyond words," Uber said in a statement following the incident. "Our thoughts are with the rider and her family during this time. This driver has been permanently removed from the app." Jagne was a driver for only about two months prior to this incident, the company stated.

On Monday, Dec. 11, the victim was dropped off by Jagne at an apartment complex. She appeared to be inebriated while knocking on several doors asking for help, Pihera said.

When officers responded to a 911 call about the victim, she was found with her pants around her ankles and told them she was raped by her driver. Officers on scene made sure the victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated.

CBS News reports that Uber does not allow underage people to be alone in a driver's vehicle. Authorities discovered that the teen was drinking at a bar with her friend(s) and her friend, who was also underage, was the person who arranged the Uber ride.

“The officers made contact with the friend who scheduled the Uber ride and obtained identifying information on the driver along with the vehicle information,” Pihera said. "We know that the trip from the bar to the apartment complex should have taken a specific amount time, but the trip data indicated that it took a much longer amount of time to complete."

Uber is working with Gwinett County Police in the ongoing investigation, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.  Jagne has been booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and may face additional charges, police said.
