There was cause for great celebration Thursday night after UCLA forward Michaela Onyenwere was selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft Pick.

Onyenwere, a Colorado native, started in 30 games her junior year at the college and became the first in the program's history to reach 1,000 points in her career, according to UCLA's website.

But it wasn't her impressive record that caught the attention of social media, Onyenwere's grandmother, rightfully excited, stole the show after The New York Liberty announced their pick.

The grandmother, beautifully dressed in traditional African attire, leaped for joy and danced during the ESPN special.

Among Onyenwere and her grandmother was a host of other loved ones as the star basketball player basked in the moment.

According to the New York Post, Onyenwere was a three-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection and averaged 19.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during her senior year.

The college senior took to Twitter Friday morning to reflect on her memorable night, thanking her family and friends.

"So excited for this new opportunity in New York! Grateful for all of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and everyone else who was supported me up to this point. Excited for this chapter! Let’s get it! @nyliberty *Cues Empire State of Mind* NOW WE’RE IN NEW YORKKKKK," the rising WNBA player wrote.

A new fan of the basketball player, actress Yvonne Orji applauded Onyenwere's grandma for showing up and out for her granddaughter.

In agreeance with Orji, Onyenwere's said her grandma "did what she had to do."

And seeing that Onyenwere's name will soon be said by tons of fans, she took to Twitter to make sure people put some respect on the pronunciation of her last name.

"It’s pronounced more like Own-yen-WEH-ray!" she said.

Of her time at UCLA, Onyenwere said she was thankful for her coaches and trainers' "unwavering belief in me."

"To my teammates, you all mean everything to me. You all are the reason why leaving this place is so hard. Thank you for being a joy in my life every single day. Thank you for making this experience so worthwhile. We have created a family that I will never forget. I will miss you all dearly, but it's never a goodbye, just a see you later," she wrote on Instagram while announcing her decision to declare for the 2021 WNBA Draft on March 29.
