Jay-Z broke down the art of rap during a recent sit-down with David Letterman.

Hov talked hip-hop with Letterman for the veteran television host's new Netflix series “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman." During the conversation, he used fellow hip-hop contemporaries Snoop Dogg and Eminem as illustrations of quality rap music, reports PEOPLE.

He said the Doggfather is an example of how a good voice can make anything sound excellent.

“You can have a great voice, and you can just almost say anything,” the "Family Feud" rapper said. “I think Snoop Dogg has a great voice — he can say ‘One-two-three and to the four.’ I was like ‘Oh my God.’ It just sounds good, right?”

Snoop felt the love and gave Jay a shout out on Twitter.

"Salute brother," Snoop's tweet read.

As for Em, Jay thinks the way he speaks is what makes him great.

“Or you can be someone like Eminem and just have amazing cadence and syncopation,” he continued. “There’s percussion inside the music, so there’s multiple ways to be really good. Some people just have it all.”

Jigga also discussed his mom, Gloria, publicly coming out as a lesbian on the "Smile" track on his "4:44" album, according to Entertainment Weekly.

He says he knew his mom was gay for many years, but last year was the first time they talked about it. According to Jay, Gloria didn’t speak on her sexuality during his childhood because she “didn’t want to embarrass her kids.”

“I knew. But this was the first time we had the conversation. And the first time I heard her say she loved her partner. Like, ‘I feel like I love somebody,’” he said. “She said, ‘I feel like.’ She held that little bit back, still. She didn’t say, ‘I’m in love,’ she said, ‘I feel like I love someone.’ And I just, I cried. I don’t even believe in crying because you’re happy.”

Jay-Z's episode of “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman” premieres April 6 on Netflix.
