Monsoons Over the Moon

Check out the below dystopian short film (part 1) from Kenyan visual artist, Dan Muchina, who works under the pseudonym "Abstract Omega."

Titled "Monsoons Over the Moon," the film, a reflection of the artist’s own experiences as a part of Nairobi’s youth, is more of a mood-piece, set in Nairobi, in which the government has shut down the internet, books and the written word have become exponentially valuable, and the world has been turned on it’s head.

The story follows a young lady from the streets whose violent boyfriend has disappeared, and his rivals are using her to look for him. She feels imprisoned by her circumstances until one of her friends gives her a book which inspires her to open her mind.

Anita Kavuu-Ng’ang’a, Blessing Lungaho, Renson Michael, Samuel Charles Mwangi, Brian ‘Geezo’ Mulaa and Lucy Ndinda star in the short.

Wangechi Ngugi produced.

The film is actually split into 2 halves; below is the first part. The second will be released at the end of November. It’s in both English and Swahili, so turn on closed captioning for English subtitles.
