We need to find a reason to go to Alaska because two black women have made history in the friendy skies.

The brief speech from Captain Tara Wright started normally with her introducing herself and First Officer Mallory Cave once travelers boarded the flight from San Francisco to Portland. She acknowledged Mother's Day and her father's 80th birthday before she shared the real reason the flight was special.

"You're sharing a pretty interesting piece of Alaska Airlines history this morning," Wright said.

"You'll be piloted by two African-American female pilots for the first time in Alaska Airlines history. You're making it this morning, whether you're awake or not."

The news elicited cheers and applause from the crowd.

Wright shared a video of her speech on her Facebook page, and it has been viewed over 1 million times. Alaskan Airlines reshared the video on its own Facebook page and compared the pilots to one of their predecessors.

"What Bessie Coleman started in 1921, we continue here," the airline wrote.
