Because of the Colorado shooting tragedy on early Friday morning, most box office trackers, as well as Warner Bros, announced that they would not report the weekend's box office take on Sunday afternoon as usual, but would postpone it until Monday.
No surprise The Dark Knight Rises was the No 1 film this weekend inspite of all that happened. However its almost $161 million weekend take was actually less than what experts were predicting. That is, predicting before the mass killing in Aurora Colorado.
No doubt, many people stayed away from theater out of respect or fear, but they are expected to return to the theaters in the upcoming weeks. And DKR is sure to get a lot of repeat business with people seeing the film again.
As for Beasts of the Southern Wild – how did the film hold up?
Once again quite well. The film. which was in 13th place at the box office chart this weekend, expanded to more screens now playing in 129 screens making a total of $763,433 for total to date of $2,855,142
In fact several theaters across the country are reporting regular sold out screenings for the film indicating excellent word of mouth.
