Wendy Williams has put her foot in her mouth once again.

It seems as though the talk show host just can’t get enough of constantly trying people. Wendy’s greatest strength comes in the form of celebrity gossip. Naturally, she should stick to what she knows.

Nope.

This week was no different when she decided to criticize Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the NAACP after commenting on the Jesse Williams BET Awards petition.

“I must say to you, he was on BET. His speech was very poignant,” she said. “On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically Black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP.”

Oh, but Wendy didn’t stop there.

“National speeches like this will always rub people the wrong way just like white people will be offended because Spelman College is a historically Black college for women. You might feel funny about that. I know I’d feel funny, like I just told you if there was a white college or whatever.”

Meanwhile in real life..

Wendy. Girl. What are you doing?

Were you not on the cover of black magazines promoting a show that also runs on a black network? Do you also believe that there is no Ebony, Essence, or BET for white people? Does that ridiculous belief offend you as well? If so, why are you using our media outlets as a place to promote your own personal financial gain and career? Are we only good to you when you when we make you money?

Funny that sounds familiar.

Wendy, every institution that is not an HBCU is a white college. Introduce yourself to a predominantly white institution. HBCUs have absolutely nothing to do with racism or segregation but everything to do with opportunity.

You name Spelman College as being offensive to white people because it’s a black college for black women. If it weren’t for schools like Spelman College many black women would be without an education. Please tell me the year when black women gained acceptance into any of the seven sister white colleges for white women? It wasn’t until the late 19th century when a SMALL number of us were even allowed in. Yet Spelman College was there, providing black women with an education they could not receive elsewhere. Opportunity. That’s what HBCUs do and have done. They welcome black students into an environment where they are allowed to be freely black and in pursuit of not just black excellence but excellence in general.

You know, Oprah Winfrey is a graduate of the Tennessee State University, an HBCU. I don’t need receipts for her success or influence, but for you I do.

Just like the now bankrupt Stacey Dash, you will soon find that the only thing we have in this world is each other. When you use your mainstream media platform to sanction disrespect towards us, you deserve to be voted off the island. Every day as HBCU grads we have to deal with this thing called white privilege that is masked as “you’re not ready to be promoted”, “we found someone better suited for the position” or “you lack the experience”. This white privilege goes on to second guess whether our education can stand up to the likes of PWIs, and indeed it can.

Check the many stars who have sat on your couch like Taraji P. Henson, Common, and Debbie Allen. All products of HBCUs.

Wendy, all I have to say to your offense about the NAACP is that white people have always been accessible to the organization. Despite that slip up called Rachel Dolezal, we have fought major battles with them.

Are you so offended that you would question the KKK not allowing us to be members unless it comes with a noose around our necks?

As an HBCU grad and proud member of the Black Girl Magic gang, I move to vote Wendy Williams off the island.
