Wendy Williams was reportedly “at death’s door” in 2020 due to alcohol abuse, according to a source.

The Jasmine Brand (via Page Six) reports that a source claims the former talk show host was near death two years ago before her friend DJ Boof and others found her in a catatonic state in her New York City apartment due to her addiction.

Supposedly, Williams' former manger Bernie Young was in fear of calling 911 because Young didn't want Williams' health to make the news.

The source claims Williams’ apartment was a mess and Williams herself was sitting on the couch in a dirty robe, with her eyes open but unresponsive. The source said that they and DJ Boof started clearing the liquor out of her house and pleaded for 911 or Williams’ former sobriety team be brought in to help. Williams’ ex-husband Kevin Hunter and her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., also asked for help.

Boof reportedly fed Williams ice chips to keep her hydrated as they waited for help.

The report is startling and brings Williams’ health into even more light as the former talk show host has re-entered rehab for her health. Shawn Zanotti, Williams’ publicist, has responded to the source’s story, saying, “The focus is not on anything from her past. The only focus we have at this time is for Wendy to continue to strive at getting better and moving forward.”

"Right now she is healing and working on the second part to her documentary and her podcast," Zanotti continued. "[S]he has several things that are demanding her attention right now and past gossip is not one of them."

At the time of the announcement of Williams’ re-entering rehab, Zanotti said, “Wendy has entered a wellness facility seeking help to manager her overall health issues. She is taking some time to focus on her health and wellness as she prepares for a major comeback for the next level in her career with The Wendy Experience Podcast. Ms. Williams is being treated by a team of some of the best doctors in the world. We ask for your prayers and well wishes at this time.”
