A white Staten Island woman suffers second-degree burns after fabricating a story about a black woman spraying her with acid this past Monday.

New York resident Lizzie Dunn, 52, told police that an imaginary black woman around 40 years of age asking for cigarettes and money. Dunn said that the woman grabbed her and sprayed her with acid, according to Newsweek

“She had a nice tone to her voice and her tone started to change when I didn’t I have the second thing she requested,” Dunn told CBS. “And she seemed angry when she talked to me the next time she said, ‘Do you at least have the time?’ I just kept walking, I didn’t respond and I think that triggered something in her.”

After spraying herself in the face, she ran into a Rocco’s Deli, a nearby restaurant, so she could call the police. Deli worker Andrew Kenwood called the authorities and she was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Dunn was treated for second-degree burns on her face and scalp and kept up the ruse until Tuesday. She told police everything.

After a thorough investigation, police discovered that she sprayed a homemade substance on her on own face and it appeared that she did this before. Other scars and injuries on her body revealed that this isn’t the first time she harmed herself, Yahoo reports.

“The alleged acid assault in the Woodrow area yesterday has been found to have not occurred,” the New York Police Department’s 123rd Precinct tweeted on Tuesday. “The injuries were self-inflicted and there is no perpetrator. There is no threat to the public.”
