Vanity Allen checked into SSM Health DePaul Hospital for stomach pain and, while hooked connected to an IV port, walked outside for fresh air. The 25-year-old was met by a security guard who left her face bloodied.

In recently released footage of the July 25 incident, Allen walked out of the hospital, when, as she says, the guard approached her. She felt a surge of pain in her side, lifted her arm as a signal for the guard to step back, and he reacted by hitting her above the eye with his fist, Riverfront Times reports.

From the camera view, the guard and Allen appear to be talking, and then a physical altercation ensues. At the climax of the combative exchange, the security guard spun her around before slamming Allen on the ground and trying to handcuff her. Most watchers ignored the scene between the two sets of glass doors before the struggle drew the attention of a few who approach. However, by that point, the guard had Allen on her feet and urged her back into the emergency waiting room.

“This was 220 pounds of white daytime TV muscle on top of her,” Albert Watkins, Allen’s lawyer, told Riverfront Times. “You have a security guard with an IQ well below room temperature taking it upon himself to see that ‘justice’ is done to a 90-pound patient in distress.”

Watkins believes the guard has been ‘relieved of his duties,’ but this has yet to be confirmed by SSM Hospital.

What is known, though, is that Allen has been charged for assault in the fourth degree.

Yes.

SSM Hospital filed a report against the woman whose face bares a permanent scar from the ordeal. However, Watkins believes justice will be served.

“This was a young lady with zero criminal history, admitted for bonafide medical reasons, who had a port installed,” Watkins said. “She had the bad fortune to run into Superman in a unitard, coming out of nowhere, who decided it was time to teach this young lady a lesson.”

According to the Riverfront Times, the hospital released a statement saying, “SSM Health DePaul Hospital is committed to providing the best care possible to every patient who comes to us and to ensuring the safety of all patients, employees and visitors. Due to federal patient privacy laws, we are unable to provide details of any patient’s care. The Bridgeton Police Department investigated the matter, and we cooperated fully with their efforts.”
