A New Mexico girl is raising money to compete in a BMX competition in Europe.
Taio Taylor got into BMX riding about three years ago, according to KRQE. Soon, her whole family joined the fun. Her brother, sister and dad are all riders, according to KLAQ.
“She saw Caroline Buchanan and said ‘I want to do that,’” her father Robel recalled.
The 10-year-old started later than most young writers but she was not deterred. She knew she had to start “working out and training to be faster and getting stronger”
Robel says her work ethic and support system have inspired Taio to keep going.
“The community has been really supportive especially when the kid puts in the work,” he said. “And she’s a hard little worker.”
Taio competed in a national competition in Albuquerque and placed high enough to qualify for the BMX World Championships in Belgium.
She’s a bit nervous about being in the new environment since it will be “a new track” and she’ll “be racing people from all over the world,” but Taio will keep going.
“If I try hard enough then I think I’ll get it,” she said.
In the meantime, Taio is raising money for the trip by selling t-shirts and hosting a fundraiser on GoFundMe.
