This year’s selection of films includes multiple award-winners, international festival favorites, and works by promising talents from several diverse nations – all films that you would be familiar with, given that we’ve covered them on this blog, in some cases, quite comprehensively.

There’s Jeta Amata’s thriller "Black November," with the volatile, oil-rich Niger Delta in focus, which follows a Nigerian community that wages war against their corrupt government and a multi-national oil corporation to protect their land from being destroyed by excessive drilling and spills; Ian Gabriel’s South African Cape ganglands coming of age thriller, "Four Corners," which centers on a 13-year-old chess prodigy who’s drawn into Cape Town’s notorious child-gang culture; there’s also "Soleils" (Suns) co-directed in Burkina Faso by Olivier Delahaye and Dani Kouyate, from a script by Delahaye, which tells the story of an old wise man who is entrusted with curing a young girl struck by amnesia, and takes her on a healing trip to Ouagadougou by way of the Cape, Berlin, Mali and Belgium; Côte d’Ivoire native Philippe Lacôte’s feature film debut, "Run," which was stars Isaach de Bankole; also a film dubbed the first feature film to shoot in Equatorial Guinea, titled "Where The Road Runs Out," which also stars Isaach De Bankolé, and follows a Rotterdam based respected scientist and lecturer decides to return to his roots, after the sudden death of an old friend who has been running a field research station in the country; and much more…
