The family of a 12-year-old boy has been pleading with the Atlanta community for help in searching for the person responsible for his killing, according to 11Alive.

David Mack was reported missing on Feb. 9 after telling his grandmother he was going to play football with some friends. He never returned home, and family members found Mack's body “shot to death in a wooded area in southwest Atlanta,” 11Alive reports.

For weeks, his family has begged the public for information about Mack's killing and family members have joined police in canvassing the area multiple times searching for more information.

“My nephew was the heart of our family. He called everybody. He kept in touch with everybody. So, we’re no longer going to get phone calls. He’s no longer going to be able to check up on people. Because somebody took him from us,” said Radiah Allen, Mack's aunt, at a press conference on Thursday.

According to 11Alive, police may have a lead and believe Mack was with someone before he died. A $10,000 reward has been publicized for any information about Mack's death.

“I just need some help. This is my community all around here. I know someone knows something," Mack's grandmother, Glenda, said at the press conference.

“There wasn’t a day that goes by that he wouldn’t tell me he loved me. I miss that most of all,” she added.

She said, “I love you,” were his last words to her after he asked to go play outside.

Glenda raised the 12-year-old since he was five days old, and he loved technology and football, she said. He was a student at Young Middle School.

His grandmother and police have already spoken to another child who said he FaceTimed with Mack and asked to join their game, but Mack told him no after someone off camera told him to say it, according to local news outlet WMAZ13.

“He said all he saw was David’s face, but he heard somebody say, 'no, say no,'” Mack's grandmother said.

People near where Mack was found dead said they heard gunshots, 11Alive reports. His family said his body had several gunshot wounds when they found him in a wooded area outside of Atlanta about a quarter mile away from his home.

"If this individual will leave a 12-year-old dead like this, what do you think he would do to you? This is not someone you want to protect. This is someone who needs to be brought to justice immediately," local resident Dr. Rashad Richey told Fox5.

Glenda raised more than $20,000 from a GoFundMe campaign for his funeral, which was on Feb. 17.

"Thank you to everyone for your amazing consideration and kind-heartedness. Your support and contributions during this difficult time have meant more to me, and my family than you could ever possibly imagine. With the help of all of you we have successfully reached our goal," Glenda wrote.

"At this time we ask that anyone else who wishes to contribute do so with Crime Stoppers Atlanta,” she wrote. “Any further donations would aid in the reward and finding the individual(s) responsible for David's death. As a community we will come together to continue to fight for justice so this never happens to any other family.”
