The year end award honors keep on piling up for Steve’s McQueen’s
harrowing drama.
The
Chicago Film Critics Association just announced this morning
their nominations for their 24th
annual CFCA awards, and 12 Years A Slave leads the way with 11 nominations, including Best Picture, McQueen for Best Director, John Ridley for Adapted Screenplay, Chiwetel Ejiofor for Best Actor, Michael
Fassbender for Supporting Actor,
newcomer Lupita Nyong’o for Supporting Actress and Promising
Performer, as well as nominations in the categories for Cinematography, Original Score, Art Direction/Production Design and
Editing.
Vying for second place with seven nominations a piece, it’s a tie
between Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity and
Spike Jonze’s Her, both of which, along with 12 Years, received Best
Picture nominations, as did the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis and David
O. Russell’s American Hustle.
Barkahd
Abdi, who played the role of the lead ship highjacker Muse in Captain
Phillips, received two nominations for Best
Supporting Actor and Most Promising
Newcomer.
Chadwick
Boseman also received a Most
Promising Newcomer nomination for his role as Jackie Robinson in 42.
20 Feet
from Stardom was one of the films to receive a Best Documentary nomination, and Ryan Coogler, the writer and director
of Fruitvale Station, got a
nomination for Most Promising Filmmaker.
The CFCA will announce the winners in an awards ceremony
next Monday Dec. 16.
