Shaylon, 13, wants a forever home after living in foster care in North Carolina. The young teenager expressed his frustration with "moving from home to home," adding that "it gets aggravating."
The 13-year-old, who is described as well-behaved and polite, also has two younger sisters who he said he used to help take care of. Although Shaylon endured some of life's challenges, it hasn't stopped him from enjoying one of his favorite pastimes which he said is painting at a ceramics studio.
“I like to paint, it kind of soothes me, it's calming," the young boy said as he painted a dragon-like porcelain figurine.
In addition to painting, Shaylon said he also enjoys football and considers himself "funny, active, and smart."
"I like changing different types of sports and I always liked baseball when I was a kid,” he explained.
He added that his dream family includes "[making] everything nice, they clean up a lot and I help them and they go out and do stuff."
According to Lifelong Adoptions, 500,000 children are adopted every year in the U.S. and 37% are foster care adoptions. Despite the large number of adoptions every year, Black children make up only 16%.
