A Barcelona soccer player became the youngest person to score a goal in the UEFA Champions League after taking the victory against Inter Milan.

On Tuesday night, 17-year-old Ansu Fati fired off the history-making goal despite a previously sustained injury. After coming off the bench, Fati kicked the winning goal for Barcelona's 2-1 win over their competition, according to ESPN. The Guinea native said the achievement was a "dream come true."

Fati didn’t take long to put a score on the board after coming into the game to cover for fellow teammate Carles Perez. After less than three minutes on the field, the teenager broke the tie against Inter Milan.

“I gave the ball to Suarez and he gave it back to me. And, when I scored, I was surprised because the whole stadium was silent. I was thinking: 'What have I just done?' But I am really happy,” he said.

Fati beat out Ghanaian soccer player Peter Ofori-Quaye’s record as the youngest goalscorer, who was 17 years, 6 months and 11 days when he landed a score in the Champions League 1997-1998 season.

“I've just been told [I have broken the record]. I am super happy with the goal and with the win,” he said following the game. "It's a dream. Everything seems to be happening so quickly. It's just about enjoying myself and learning from the best. Every time I get a chance, I will try to take it, either by scoring goals or by working hard."

According to ESPN, Fati broke another record earlier this season when he became the youngest La Liga scorer for Barcelona when the team played against Osasuna in August.

"[Ansu] is incredibly talented," Perez said. "We're an example for the kids coming through the La Masia [academy], in the sense that if you believe, you can do it."

"Barca have confidence in the guys in the academy. They can be a success at this club," Perez added.

Last week, the teenager signed a renewed contract with Barcelona until 2022.

Barcelona will visit Real Sociedad on Saturday before preparing for the first El Clasico of the season against Real Madrid on December 18. Their last game of the year will be on December 21. At the beginning of 2020, they will have a derby clash at Espanyol.
