Two sisters, who were riding as passengers in a white 2006 Infiniti M35, died after the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a concrete median on a Manhattan freeway on Friday, New York Daily News reports. The siblings have been identified as Kesha Montez, 35, and Mahogany Robinson, 29.
The driver, 33-year-old Daquan Allen, was able to escape as the vehicle burst into flames on the FDR Drive on the Upper East Side, ABC 7 New York reports. Montez and Robinson were trapped in the car and pronounced dead. Police said the car was “engulfed in flames” when first responders arrived on the scene shortly before 5 a.m.
Allen, who is now facing reckless driving charges in connection to the crash, is being treated at the hospital while in police custody. The 33-year-old is in stable condition.
Montez is identified as a resident of Yonkers, New York, while Robinson was living in Columbus, Ohio, according to 10 WBNS.
