Students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are showing their school spirit as homecoming season continues.
With so much going on at many illustrious institutions, it’s easy to lose track of these special festivities.
However, we’ve got you covered as we compiled a list of upcoming homecoming events at 10 HBCUs across the country.
Howard University
Howard’s homecoming festivities are going down from Oct. 15 to 23, and the theme for this year is “The Meccaverse.”
Some of the institution’s noteworthy events include a Bison Madness pep rally on Oct. 17, an LGBTQ+ Lavender Reception on Oct. 19 and the annual Student Fashion Show on Oct. 20.
The Meccaverse will also feature the beloved Yardfest concert and Greek Step Show on Oct. 21, and both an Alumni Tailgate and Community Parade will go down starting the following morning.
Of course, the school’s homecoming game will go down on Oct. 22 as well, and it’ll feature the Howard Bisons taking on Delaware State University.
Jackson State University
Down in Mississippi, Jackson State will hold its homecoming events from Oct. 15 to 22, and it’s themed A Different World in honor of the eponymous sitcom, which depicted student life at a fictional HBCU.
Excitingly, WJTV reports that Jackson State will host a Moneybagg Yo concert on Oct. 19 as part of its homecoming festivities, culminating with an Oct. 22 match-up against Campbell University.
“Homecoming is the biggest celebration of the year for students. It’s a time for us to gather and reflect on what Jackson State means to us,” Madison Cathey, president of JSU’s Student Government Association, said, WJTV reports. “I’m excited to honor our coveted traditions and enjoy the festive ambiance of yet another homecoming at our dear ole college home.”

Spelman College
Homecoming’s going down at Spelman, one of our nation’s two historically Black women’s colleges, from Oct. 16 to 23; like many other HBCUs on this list, this will be Spelman’s first in-person homecoming since 2019, according to the institution’s webpage.
The festivities will begin with a Sunday Gospel Concert on Oct. 16. Throughout the week, the school will also hold an LGBTQ+ Lavender Brunch (Oct. 19), a “Diamond Daughter and Golden Girl” event for people from the Class of 1972 or earlier (Oct. 20) and an Alumnae Welcome Check-In (Oct. 21).
Additionally, there will be an Alumnae Tailgate Experience on Oct. 22, followed by a Closing Worship Service the very next day.
So, while the school doesn’t have a football team, homecoming attendees will get the chance to tailgate with fellow Spelman Sisters before heading over to Morehouse to watch its homecoming football game.

Morehouse College
Speaking of Morehouse, this university will take on Benedict College for its Oct. 22 homecoming game, and it’s holding a Tailgate Tent Homecoming Experience ahead of the match-up.
“Not for the faint of heart, this event is for the serious tailgaters and partygoers. Join us as we create the biggest alumni tailgate tent ever. We will have food, drink, beverage sponsors, chair massages, dance floors, DJs, flat-screen televisions, and anything else we can fit under our Morehouse College Alumni Tailgate Tent,” the university says of the event.
On top of this poppin’ tailgate experience, Morehouse is also holding an Alumni Golf Jam on Oct. 21 at Top Golf Atlanta Midtown.

Florida A&M University
FAMU’s festivities will take place from Oct. 22 to 30, and some of the first events include a drive-in movie and a Coming to America-themed Coronation Ball.
Additionally, with step shows on Oct. 24 and 28, Aux Cord Wars on Oct. 25 and a Beauty & Wellness Expo on Oct. 26, FAMU is definitely keeping it poppin’ this homecoming season!
The institution will go head-to-head against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Oct. 29, and this will be followed by a concert featuring Latto and City Girls.

Texas Southern University
Next up is the illustrious Texas Southern University, which is celebrating homecoming from Oct. 23 to 29.
The school’s theme is “Destination: Tiger Nation,” and it’s kicking off with a Midnight Brunch. Over the next few days, the university will host its 20th Annual Tiger Paw Scholarship Golf Classic, a pep rally, the Mr. and Miss Texas Southern University Coronation and an Alumni Back to the Yard Party.
Additionally, an Alumni Under 40 Recognition Brunch and Homecoming Step Show will go down on Oct. 28.
The very next day, the school will take on Lincoln University (California) for its homecoming game, which will peculiarly not be against another HBCU.

Prairie View A&M University
PVAMU is another Texas HBCU that’s hosting homecoming events in late October.
The festivities start off with a Sunday Chapel Service and Gospel Fest on Oct. 23, and this will be followed up with a group biking event called “Let’s Glow Riding.”
There will also be a Kicks and Conversations event for PVAMU sneakerheads, a jazz concert and an alumni banquet. On Saturday, Oct. 29, the university will hold a Homecoming Parade before taking on Bethune-Cookman University.
We should also note that a Detroit-based school band is slated to perform at PVAMU’s homecoming game, as Blavity previously reported.

Delaware State University
Up at Delaware State, homecoming season is kicking off with its Coronation Ball on Oct. 23, and this will be followed up with a Monday Mayhem event the next day.
Other noteworthy events include a Powderpuff flag football game on Oct. 25, a Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch on Oct. 26 and a “Who Runs the Yard” Greek Step Show event on Oct. 27 with GloRilla.
Friday will feature the “Dreams and Nightmares Student Homecoming Concert” with Meek Mill, Moneybagg Yo and Nardo Wick, and Delaware State will face-off against North Carolina Central University on Saturday, Oct. 29.

North Carolina A&T University
NC A&T’s homecoming, the self-proclaimed “Best Homecoming on Earth,” also kicks off on Oct. 23, though the school’s star-studded events going down later during the week are what people are really excited for.
Oct. 28 will feature an “Ain’t No Half-Steppin'” step show to show off the talent that exists within the school’s fraternities and sororities; this will be followed by a homecoming concert featuring Jeffrey Osborne and Loose Ends.
The concert vibes will spill over into the next day, when Lil Baby, Nardo Wick, GloRilla and Chlöe Bailey will hit the stage after NC A&T takes on Campbell University.

Grambling State University
Finally, we have Louisiana’s Grambling State University, which is celebrating homecoming from Oct. 30 to Nov. 5.
Kicking off with a Prayer Walk and Gospel Fest on Sunday, other events include a students vs. faculty/staff basketball game and a Founder’s Day Convocation. There will also be a fashion show, talent, show, and comedy show to really bring on the entertainment.
On Saturday, Nov. 5, the school will hold a Homecoming Parade before taking on the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The game will be followed by a Greek Step Show and Alumni Late Night Breakfast.
