21 Savage recently collaborated with British rapper Giggs for his new song “By Chance” and revealed his plans after receiving his green card.

Some may think the rapper was born and raised in Atlanta.

However, as Complex reported, in a saga a few years back, it was revealed that he was born in London and moved to Atlanta when he was 7. On the track, 21 spoke about living in the U.K. during his formative years.

“When I get my green card, I’m goin’ straight to Brixton (On God),” the 30-year-old raps toward the end of the verse, referencing the famous south London district.

The “Creepin'” artist was born Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph in Newham, London. Some insinuated he kept the information a secret to prevent deportation. But legal documents revealed his initial birthplace after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested him in 2019.

As Blavity reported, the federal law enforcement agency took the rapper into custody after he reportedly stayed in the country after his visa had expired in 2006. At the time, he faced deportation and awaited the case’s outcome.

“Mr. Abraham-Joseph is presently in ICE custody in Georgia and has been placed into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” the government agency said. “ICE will now await the outcome of his case before a federal immigration judge to determine future actions.”

His arrest made headlines in the hip-hop community. Rappers Meek Mill and JAY-Z stepped in to help after his detainment in Atlanta.

Nearly two weeks later, aggravated felony charges against the rapper were dropped a day after he was released on bond.

Last year, 21 thanked Hov and the Philadelphia native for using their resources to release him from custody. He opened up about the ordeal on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast.

“I called Meek while I was in jail and told Meek, ‘Bro, I just got locked up.’ He called JAY-Z, and JAY-Z put a lawyer on my case. He played a role in getting me out,” he recalled.

The rapper’s immigration case is still pending while he tours with Drake.
