As students close their books and prepare to enjoy the summer sun, some worry inflation will halt the fun. However, whether you’re running low on funds or want to save, there are ways to make this summer one to remember.

Chicago is the largest city in Illinois and the third-largest in the United States. You’re bound to find some function to attend to, no matter where you reside. Whether you’re looking to visit animals, taste Chicago’s best dishes, or watch a film downtown, here are some coin-saving things to do.

The zoo is home to over 200 unique animals from various countries around the globe. There are many dine-in establishments to eat at with food options under $20. Also, the Lionel Train Adventure tickets are only $4 per person.

You aren’t a true Chicagoan if you haven’t experienced the Navy Pier fireworks show at least once in your lifetime. The show is free to attend as they steal your attention for ten minutes. Only held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you’ll be able to watch it as many times as you like until Labor Day weekend.

Whether you want a slice of deep-dish pizza or a Chicago-style hotdog, the Taste of Chicago is the event to attend. This summer, the taste is expanding, holding the big event in Grant Park July 8-10, and having smaller ones in three neighborhoods on June 11,18 and 25 from 12-8. All have free admission, and attendees can use cash or credit to pay for food.

What’s better than watching legendary movies like Save The Last Dance, Harry Potter, Dirty Dancing, and more in the park on a windy day? The free film series has been an event for the past few summers, and it’s free to attend!

Explore The Museum of Science and Industry

Who said science couldn’t be fun? The Museum of Science and Industry is one of the most visited places in Chicago, with exhibits like Science Storms and Numbers in Nature: A Mirror Maze. The price for visitors ages 12 and up is $21.95, but it’s free if you’re a member. They also have a food court with a plethora of different restaurants.

Despite world issues, this summer doesn’t have to be a bore. Students must unwind, so once the new school year begins, you’ll be ready to reopen the books.
