As we trade in our summer staple wardrobe pieces for our favorite fall paraphernalia, one must admit that this summer was eventful. It’s hard to believe that those three months flew by so quickly. There’s a lot to disagree on in the world at the moment, but we can all agree that television helped many of us escape from reality this summer. Whether it was keeping up with the dynamic characters in P-Valley or rooting for Shawna and Mia in Rap Sh!t, television kept us entertained.

Check out the five TV shows that got us through the summer.

1. "P-Valley"

If J. Alphonse Nicholson doesn’t receive an Emmy for his portrayal of Lil Murda, then we’d like to have a word with the manager. In all seriousness, the entire P-Valley crew deserves all the awards and praise for such a wonderful season two. Here’s to season three! We must all give our thanks to Katori Hall for bringing the stories of our favorite fictional exotic dancers and their backgrounds to the forefront.

2. "Rap Sh!t"

Raise your hand if you’ve always wanted to start a rap group with your best friends. This show, about two women from Miami who’ve decided to start a rap group, is pure gold. Major shoutout to Issa Rae for creating such a dope show. Anything she touches turns into gold, so it’s no surprise that this has been an enormous success.

3. "The Real Housewives of Atlanta"

Fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta were in for a treat this summer as our favorite Georgia peaches brought the heat every week. We love to see these women give us shady one-liners while taking us along on the journey to maintaining their empires.

4. "Love & Marriage: DC"

For fans of Love & Marriage: Huntsville, you’ll love Love & Marriage: DC. It follows the lives of prominent Black couples in the DMV area who work on their marriages, businesses and friendships. Black love all around! Carlos King has done it again.

5. "All the Queen's Men"

Eva Marcille may be a talented model, but she’s even more of a talented actress. Marcille plays the owner of a men’s strip club where she reigns as Marilyn “Madame” DeVille with an iron fist.

We can’t wait to see what TV shows will keep us entertained this fall! We’re sure there will be some more amazing ones to add to the bunch.
