Dale Watson, a 55-year-old man from Porterville, California, was sentenced to 43 years to life in prison on Tuesday for the killing of 18-year-old Dynasty Alexander. The Porterville man was seen on security footage on March 3, 2019, as he picked up Alexander outside an apartment complex in Tulare, California, and took off in a truck, The Fresno Bee reported.

The teen's body, which revealed a gunshot wound to the upper torso, was found later that day near an orchard on a dirt driveway. Watson was identified and arrested two days later. Alexander also appeared to have been strangled, according to ABC 30.

He was convicted in April for second-degree murder with intentional discharge of a firearm causing death, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.

"We didn't want this person walking freely within the community, so we put detectives 24 hours on him watching his every move," Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said in 2019.

The sheriff added that the 55-year-old, who possessed a prior felony conviction for vandalism in 2018, is known to be violent.

"He's known to have an anger management problem," Boudreaux said. "We believe he was out doing one of two things: sex activity or drug activity."

Family members said they have no idea how the teen ended up with the convicted murderer. According to Boudreaux, the young woman faced some trouble in life, but she was trying to turn her life around.

"Her life was cut very, very short. I know people in the community were trying to help her. I know that there were people with special groups trying to help her that had high hopes trying to help her turn around," he said.
