Amanda Gorman, the country’s youngest poet laureate, has a bright future and her rise to prominence has inspired a generation of future leaders and change agents. Millions of people tuned in to watch her rousing and passionate performance of the poem “The Hill We Climb" on Inauguration Day, including 7-year-old Jeremy Rowan.

For spirit day at school, Rowan couldn’t think of a better person to honor for the celebration. Kimberly Rowan, Jeremy’s mom, said her son has grown to admire the 23-year-old after researching her life and work.

“He said he was dressing as Amanda since he was really enjoying reading her biography and writing a report about her life and poetry,” Kimberly told My Modern Met. “And when it came to finding the outfit, he knew right where to look: in his closet, the costume box, and beyond. He had a blast coming up with the costume.”

The boy’s outfit was inspired by Gorman’s attire at the historic event earlier this year, where she wore a yellow blazer, white polo shirt and red headband that Jeremy recreated using items he found at home.

After posting a now-viral photo of the 7-year-old’s outfit on social media, Gorman reposted the picture on March 21, World Poetry Day, with a caption that read, “When I dress up as my idol I have to dress up as him!”

The 23-year-old rising star sent a private video to the family, congratulating Jeremy for honoring her with a great costume.

“It is really such a special moment for him and I know it will shape who he becomes,” Kimberly said. “The love from Amanda and the world has reaffirmed his choice in dressing as her. I believe this will allow him to continue to make bold choices in the future without the fear that others may react negatively.”

Gorman, also the youngest person to recite a poem at the Inauguration, became the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate of the United States in 2017, according to Poets.org. Earlier this year, she ushered in another first as the first-ever poet commissioned to write a poem performed at the Super Bowl.

"It’s been something I find a lot of emotional reward in, writing something I can make people feel touched by, even if it’s just for a night,” Gorman told PBS ahead of President Joe Biden's Inauguration ceremony.

The poet and author also founded the nonprofit One Pen One Page, an organization that works to provide free creative writing initiatives for underserved girls and young women.

As Blavity previously reported, a pair of the 23-year-old’s books reached the top of Amazon's publishing platform following her lauded performance at the Inauguration.

The books, The Hill We Climb: Poems and Change Sings: A Children's Anthem, topped Amazon's general bestseller book chart in late January. They also led at least one of Amazon's children's books charts.

"I AM ON THE FLOOR MY BOOKS ARE #1 & #2 ON AMAZON AFTER 1 DAY! Thank you so much to everyone for supporting me and my words. As Yeats put it: 'For words alone are certain good: Sing, then,'" she wrote on Twitter.
