Everyone likes to feel special every now and again.
Cook dinner. A really, really good one.
The age of people not knowing how to get it cracking over a stove must come to an end. There are no more excuses. Don’t be a #StrugglePlate. This isn’t just dinner. This is an actual experience. Appetizers. Prep time. There need to be place settings. She should look up in between bites and be moments away from the “itis,” but smile through the fatigue because it’s just that good and you made it for her. For inspiration, head over to Blavity Foodie.
Restock ALL her beauty products. (Before they run out).
This requires some observation, but if you’re vigilant you can definitely make this one come to fruition. Depending on the team she’s on, there’s often a designated #WashDay, during which bae dedicates time to the upkeep and refresh of her hair, scalp, and general root therapy. Find out everything in the cabinet, where it comes from, how long it takes to get through them, and get all of them. If they don’t deliver, go to the store and carry them back.
Help her decompress.
Bae works hard and you know that. She’s got big goals, giant ambitions, and nothing will stand in the way. Be mindful and take some stress away.
Take her to a bookstore, and build her personal library.
You need to walk in there with intellectual aggression of unseen levels. Every shelf is getting examined, and you’re leaving with all the books. ALL OF THEM. The couple that stays woke together always makes history. Make a list of original books you want. Kindles are great, iPads are awesome, but there’s nothing like feeling the pages of a book in your hands. That’s classic, just like she is.
Write her a letter.
The art of letter writing isn’t dead, people just forget that it matters. Handwritten notes are an exercise in intentionality and mindfulness, which are important in sustaining and growing in your time with bae.
Buy her something you can take care of together.
Maybe you’re not ready for a puppy, but something you can both invest time in (like you do each other), is a great way to showcase commitment and have fun at the same time. Bonsai trees, herb gardens or even a fish (have a feeding schedule) are simple options.
Give her the hoodie and sweatpants she always steals but denies she wants.
They don’t really belong to you anyway at this point. Tuck a little note into the front pocket too, with a few squirts of that favorite scent, so even when you’re gone, you’re still around.
Take a Baecation.
This requires nothing but you and her. But there are a few important steps to make this a success:
- Turn your phone off or let it die. If it’s that real, they’ll send a carrier pigeon.
- Do the things that remind you of the best parts of each other. That’s different for everyone, but that’s what makes it special.
- Don’t tell people about it. Some things are better left to the imagination. (seriously, limit yourself to just one ‘gram flex. You’ll live, I promise).
