Luther Younger is redefining what it means to go the extra mile.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the 98-year-old takes long walks alongside highways to visit his ailing wife in the hospital. Younger was seen walking along a highway in Rochester, New York, to visit his paralyzed wife, Waverly, who has been suffering from brain cancer since 2009.

"My dad's always walked. He says he does it to stay alive," his daughter, Lutheta Younger, said. “He still says, ‘Nope, I have to get out there to my wife. I have to go.’”

The Korean War Vet makes going to see his wife his No. 1 priority no matter how hard.

"It's a rough pull. It's been tough," said the dedicated husband.

Good Samaritan Dan Bookhard happened to see the struggling senior citizen walking in the rain and made it his duty to assist Mr. Younger with a ride to the hospital:

“My upbringing, when you see somebody elderly, when you see somebody struggling when it’s raining… I had to pick him up, and I couldn’t be one of the ones who would just drive by,” Bookhard told Spectrum News.

Mr. Younger isn't necessarily forced to walk, he chooses to do so.

“He doesn’t have to, but he wants to. I can drive him. He just doesn’t want to wait; he’s impatient,” Lutheta said.

Mr. Younger does whatever it takes to be by his wife's side and speaks of her with a love many can only hope to have one day.

"She's the best cup of tea I ever had."

Luther and Waverly Younger have been married more than 50 years. Due to health issues, she's been hospitalized for nearly two weeks. Even in the rain, he walks to be by her side.

"I am nothing without my wife," he told Spectrum News.

Younger also got jokes.

“You see, I’m not humped over like those guys out here – the old guys,” he hilariously said.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help the family handle hospital expenses.
