Brian Smith, a Louisville, Kentucky police officer, received a 30 day suspension after reportedly posting a link to an article on MrConservative.com on his Facebook page, WDRB reports.

The article told of a black teen "sucker punching" another girl, and Smith added a bit of racist commentary to the already questionable piece, writing of the teen, “ANIMAL! Nothing but a wild animal that needs put down. There I said it."

Smith also posted an Islamophobic take on a report Madonna had begun a study of the Quran, writing, someone should take a microphone and “beat her half to death with it,” adding that the beating would be "a lesson in Muslin [sic] behavior for her.”

WDRB obtained documents related to the department's internal investigation of Smith's online behavior. The investigation began in December 2016 when police received a complaint about Smith's “deep-seated bias against minority communities."

The complaint asked the department to "consider this post on his Facebook page about clothing choices made by mostly black youth.”

The whistle blower submitted an aggressive post in which Smith expressed his frustrations with black youth style.

“Ok … If you wear a hat, square it up on ur [sic] head and put a bend in the bill, and pull ur [sic] pants up," the post read. "You really make me want to hit u [sic] as hard as i [sic] can in the face just to see if I can fold ur [sic] teeth inside ur [sic] mouth. I’m not saying id [sic] do it, for that would be illegal, immoral, and wrong, not to mention (and most important) could get me in trouble. That is all.”

In January, Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Steve Conrad reportedly planned to fire Smith for his Facebook posts, which he said “advocate violence against others” and “fostered mistrust of the police."

However, Conrad changed his mind, and decided a 30 day suspension without pay would suffice.

In the letter to Smith confirming his suspension, Conrad wrote, “I believe your posts can be construed by some to express ridicule, bias, disrespect or prejudice against members of our community.”

Following his suspension, Smith resigned in April.
