A Georgia woman has been charged in connection to lying about being HIV-positive and claiming she intentionally spread it to partners in a viral video.

On Tuesday, police said Brandi Yakeima Lasiter has backtracked after claiming she purposefully spread the virus, reports WRBL.

In a roughly one-minute-long Facebook rant, the 36-year-old boasted about passing on the virus while also listing partners, including several men and their wives.

The original video has since been removed from the social media platform but remains on YouTube.

Her purported intention was to avenge hurt inflicted by former lovers.

In the clip, Lasiter said, “I always get the last laugh…I get real nasty, evil.”

Officials from the Americus Police Department said Lasiter voluntarily submitted a blood test proving that she doesn’t have the virus. They said she shared results from a 2018 HIV test along with recent results from this month.

Police told WRBL that Lasiter said, “she does not have the HIV virus …and made the video because she was angry at the people she named.” Major Herman Lamar told 11Alive that they began investigating the woman after a man named in the video filed a complaint with the department. Lasiter has been charged with a misdemeanor count of harassing communications. For the crime, she could spend up to a year in jail and/or pay a $1,000 fine.

The woman’s claims have garnered attention nationwide and sparked outrage across social media. The confession was particularly alarming as the CDC lists Georgia as one of the top five states in the country with HIV cases and African Americans with the most diagnoses. Local police in the area have used the hoax as an opportunity to remind citizens about the importance of safe sex.

"It is quite alarming to anyone in any community and we asked everyone to — if you are going to engage in risky behavior — to also practice safe sex," Lamar said.
