I’ve yet to see this Afrofuturist documentary from British-Ghanaian filmmaker, John Akomfrah; and after watching the snippet below, I really want to.

If you live in London, you’ll have an opportunity to do so this Saturday, the 18th, at a multimedia event that’ll include George Clinton and Nona Hendryx. Details HERE.

Part of the event will be devoted to a rare screening of Akomfrah’s documentary The Last Angel of History , described as “an engaging and poetic examination of the relationships between Pan-African culture, music, science fiction, intergalactic travel, and computer technology.

The 45-minute 1995 documentary features segments with and/or about, in addition to George Clinton, Sun Ra, Derek May, Kodwo Eshun, Nichelle Nichols, DJ Spooky, Goldie and many others.

It’s not readily available; you won’t find it on Netflix, nor Amazon. The distributor, Icarus Films, is selling it on their website for a whopping $298! I’m guessing that’s the educational institution fee; although I didn’t see any other prices levels listed.

Below are the intriguing first 8 minutes:
