His acclaimed crime drama Man On Ground, continuing to screen around the world this year, after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year in the Contemporary World Cinema category, Nigerian writer/director Akin Omotoso is moving forward, prepping his next feature film project.

Details on plot aren't public yet, but I can tell you that it's titled Night Has Fallen, was written by both Omotoso and Mark Johnston, and is described as a political drama.

I can also tell you that it's one of 41 feature projects selected for the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) International Financing Forum (IFF), which runs September 9-10 in Toronto.

The two-day event encourages co-production partnerships and possibilities for our producers to connect with international partners. Essentially, financing, producers, filmmakers and projects meet; and after 2 days, some will walk away happier, and others won't.

Two films supported by OMDC and past IFF projects, will be screening at TIFF this year: Home Again and Midnight’s Children.

So a good start/sign for Omotoso's Night Has Fallen. His bold and exacting portrayal of rising xenophobia in South Africa, Man On Ground, was an S&A highlight, and he's definitely a filmmaker to pay attention to.  

Night Has Fallen is now on my watch-list, so as I learn more about it, so will you.
