“Eddie Griffin is down. Me and Eddie talked about it laughed about it. Tracy Morgan, he wanna do it [too]. I said ‘Ya’ll both kinda can do it.'”
The RZA‘s words, according to an interview with XXL Mag, who spoke to the Wu-Tang Clan leader about the Ol’ Dirty Bastard screen biopic, supposedly in the works for a few years now.
According to RZA, Eddie Griffin seems to have the edge to get the part. He says, “Eddie spent time with Dirty. They knew each other well.”
The script is penned by Raeshawn, another cousin of the late rapper. He says, “He’s been working on it for two years now. [In fact] I think Eddie’s already signed on with a letter of Intent—I signed on, of course. So you know [Raeshawn] got my blessin’ to make it happen.”
The screen biopic of another Wu-Tang member, Raekwon, is reportedly in the works with Cee-lo Green attached to play his father.
The RZA recently finished directing his first feature film, The Man With The Iron Fist. We posted some details about that project shot in China, a couple of months ago, in THIS post.
Well, I guess now it’s the time for late rappers’ screen biopics. There’s money to be made here, if Notorious was any indication.
Interesting casting choices nonetheless. Thoughts?
