Ahead of the online debut of writer/director/actor Ka’ramuu Kush’s short film And Then… this Wednesday – winner of the 3rd Shadow And Act Black Filmmaker Screenwriting Challenge – we’ve been showcasing some of his early work.
Yesterday’s feature was the made in 2007 short film titled Dear Me, which Kush co-wrote with T. Tara Turk, and which stars Kymberli Carter, Nisa Ward, Russell Hornsby, Lanre Idewu and Jessica Care Moore.
Today it’s his AFI thesis film Salvation Road, starring Roger Guenveur Smith and Russell Hornsby – an ABFF HBO Short Film Competition finalist a couple of years ago.
The synopsis for the dramatic short reads:
Business becomes unusual for an unsuspecting hitman who senses that he’s been witnessed murdering his traitorous mentor by a 9 year old boy.
Joining Hornsby and Smith in the film’s cast are Liza de Weerd, Michael Harney and Dmitri Schuyler-Linch.
By the way, if you haven’t read Jai’s recent interview with Ka’ramuu and starring cast, regarding the upcoming And Then (again, premiering online on this blog tomorrow, Wednesday), read it HERE.
Otherwise, check out one of his earliest shorts, 2010’s Salvation Road, a short that received some ink on this blog as it traveled the film festival/film screening circuit in 2011:
