Akon is facing serious backlash after his remarks following the death of actor Michael K. Williams. In the wake of his friend's passing, the singer said “the famous and rich go through more issues than the poor.”

As Blavity previously reported, Williams was found dead Monday by his nephew in his Brooklyn apartment. The cause of death is not yet known, but officials speculate The Wire actor died from a drug overdose.

“There’s just too many of us going down like that, and I think when moments like this happen we all gotta reflect, ’cause we’re all going through things in our lives, things that — making decisions that actually affect not only us and our life, but everyone that surrounds and looks up to us,” Akon said, according to TMZ.

“You know, this business creates this, like, environment where everyone’s wearing a mask, no one tells you what’s really going on in your life, so real friends can’t even really advise you ’cause we don’t really know what’s happening,” he added. “’Cause we put on this facade of success but yet behind the face there’s so much happening. The famous and the rich go through more issues than the poor. You know when they say, ‘More money, more problems,’ that’s a real thing.”

Fans on social media were not here for the “Locked Up” singer’s take on the matter and swiftly took to Twitter to share their views.

Some fans even suggested they will take Akon's monetary donations to help support their own expenses.

Ultimately, Akon described Williams as a "super funny" and "talented" person, noting that his death was a tremendous loss. He also urged people to ask for help when needed.

"I face my problems head on," the 48-year-old said. "Whatever challenges I have I face it, and if you don't face it it's going to haunt you. If it haunts you long enough, before you know it, you go crazy."

"I'm not afraid to ask for help. If I need help, imma ask," he added. "The least they can do for you is say no, and no ain't never kill nobody, it motivates you."
