nullAkon has joined Hayden ChristensenAdrien Brody, and Jordana Brewster in the indie action thriller American Heist – a remake of the 1959 Steve McQueen movie The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery.

The film tells the story of two brothers with shady pasts, both working towards some sense of normal lives, when one drags the other into a doomed bank robbery led by a gang of criminals, and their sibling loyalty to each other is tested.

In the original 1959 film, Steve McQueen plays a college dropout hired to be the getaway driver in a bank robbery. It was based on a 1953 bank robbery attempt of Southwest Bank in St. Louis.

Sarik Andreasyan is directing this new take on the story, with Tove Christensen, Gevond Andreasyan, Georgy Malkov and Vladimir Poliakov producing the movie, which begins shooting June 24.

No word on what role exactly Akon is playing (his character’s name is “Sugar,” according to IMDB). Also no word on why exactly Akon is in the movie in the first place – although this wouldn’t be his first time in front of the camera.
