Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is coming to the defense of Whoopi Goldberg.
In an interview with TMZ, Ocasio-Cortez sounded off on the EGOT winner’s suspension from the ABC daytime talk show The View due to her recent remarks regarding the Holocaust.
“I think whenever there’s a learning moment like this, what’s super important is the relationship between that person and the community they’re making amends with,” the famed politician and activist said to TMZ.
Ocasio-Cortez also noted that Goldberg’s apology was accepted by Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, who called the Hollywood legend “a long-time ally of the Jewish community”
“I think we really kind of take the Jewish community’s lead on this and they seem to see that her apology was authentic and want to move on,” she continued.
“If you’re going to do this, let’s be truthful about it,” she said. “The Holocaust isn’t about race. It’s not about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”
Goldberg later issued an apology on her Twitter page, but was placed on a two-week suspension by ABC News boss Kim Goodwin for her remarks.

“On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both,” Goldberg wrote on Twitter.
“As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected.”
