nullNOTE: This doesn’t debut in the USA until September, but it’s already airing in the UK. The BBC has been releasing clips that are available for USA audiences. However, if you’re in the USA, and don’t want your experience spoiled, I suggest you completely avoid watching any of them (I’ve posted a few – here’s another).

As we already know, Alice definitely returns for what appears will be the final season of the hit BBC series Luther, starring Idris Elba. The cat was out of the bag months ago.

In the below clip, she finally tells Luther directly that she essentially wants him (which I’m sure will make many of your hearts go aflutter).

For much of last year, we’d been led to believe by show creator Neil Cross that we shouldn’t expect the Alice Morgan storyline to return in any sort of way this coming season. Both he and star Idris Elba have emphasized that they’re trying to set things up for the “bigger picture” and there’s a possibility that Alice’s storyline will come back when the Luther feature film is made.

Instead, for season 3, Luther matches wits with, as well as is romanced by a new character played by Sienna Guillory.

That little detail there was met with some sadness among fans of the series when we first announced it last year, who’d grown to love Alice and her deliciously maniacal ways, as well as her interactions with Luther, and maybe hoped that they’d get together.

And also Neil Cross later revealed that Alice may be getting her very own spin-off project, saying that he was in talks with the BBC to create a spin-off for the infamous character played wonderfully by actress Ruth Wilson.

This is the season in which Idris Elba’s DCI John Luther meets his villainous equal – essentially his very own Professor Moriarty
