Samantha “Just Sam” Diaz, the winner of American Idol Season 18, revealed on Instagram that she had been hospitalized and was in serious need of help.

Diaz initially shared the news on August 24, informing fans of her hospital visit via her Instagram Story.

“Thank you to everyone that checked on me,” she captioned the story. “I am ALIVE and out of the hospital.” Two days later, Diaz took to her Instagram story again to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. She wrote, “I’m doing much better now.”

Diaz seemingly offered a clue as to what landed her in the hospital.

Although she didn’t share the reason behind her hospitalization, Just Sam shared a photo of a scale showcasing her current weight, which some might think played a part in her admittance.

“100lbs is crazyyy … I seriously need help,” she captioned the Instagram Story post.

Samantha Diaz’s run of ABC’s American Idol was definitely one for the books.

Despite competing on the show in the midst of a global pandemic, Just Sam still wowed the judges with her vocals as she performed around her home in the projects in New York where she lived with her grandmother.

During the season finale, Diaz gave show stopping performances of Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and Andra Day’s “Rise Up”, ultimately beating out Arthur Gunn for the crown.
