Some quickie casting news… First, Andre Royo has joined Dayo Okeniyi (Thresh in The Hunger Games) in the indie coming-of-age drama titled The Spectacular Now, an adaptation of a novel by Tim Tharp, to be directed by James Ponsoldt (Smashed), which centers on "a charismatic high school senior who lives only for the moment."
Royo joins a cast that also already includes Milles Teller (who stars as the charismatic high school senior), Shailene Woodley and Brie Larson, in addition to Dayo Okeniyi.
Royo will play Teller's teacher.
The film is a co-production between Shawn Levy's 21 Laps, Global Produce and ALP (as in Andrew Lauren Productions – son of Ralph Lauren).
And second… Yasiin Bey (previously known as Mos Def), Cee Lo Green and others in the music drama Can A Song Save Your Life? which stars Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld, Adam Levine and Catherine Keener.
The film reportedly revolves around an aspiring singer (Knightley) who moves to New York with her boyfriend and fellow aspiring musician (Levine) so they can both pursue their music careers. Levine's character breaks up with Knightley soon after their arrival to pursue a solo recording contract, leaving Knightley on her own to be discovered by a "down-on-his-luck" record producer (Ruffalo) while singing at a local bar.
Yasiin will play Ruffalo’s Character's longtime business partner in the recording industry.
Cee Lo, as we already reported, will play a character named "Troublegum," described as "a very successful hip hop star."
The film will be directed by John Carney (Once) and executive-produced by Judd Apatow. It's currently shooting.
